Twitter announced, “We will no longer allow free promotion of certain social media platforms on Twitter”

Users of Twitter are no longer able to connect to their profiles on other social media platforms in their profiles

Elon Musk-owned Twitter said on Sunday that users will no longer be able to promote their presence on Facebook, Instagram, Mastodon, Truth Social, Tribel, Nostr, and Post on its platform, a move that has infuriated millions of users.

Twitter said that while it recognizes that many of its users are active on other social media platforms, “we will no longer allow free promotion of certain social media platforms on Twitter”.

It implies that users can no longer link to their social media profiles on Twitter in their bios.

The business announced that it will delete accounts made only for the purpose of advertising other social media sites as well as content that includes links to or usernames for the following sites: Facebook, Instagram, Mastodon, Truth Social, Tribel, Nostr, and Post.

Cross-posting of content from any social media site is still permitted on Twitter.

The corporation stated that posting links or usernames to social media platforms not mentioned above is also not against this policy.

Twitter stated that it will take action "at both the tweet level and the account level" against accounts that break this policy.

"We will temporarily suspend your account and request adjustments to your profile to make sure it is no longer in violation if violations of this policy are mentioned in your bio and/or account name," the statement reads. Twitter stated that subsequent offences "may result in permanent suspension."

Many Twitter users were not happy with the decision.

This is such a last-ditch effort.

Sincerely, I can't recall the last time a digital business acted in such a transparently patronising and pitiful manner toward people "Farhad Manjoo, a columnist for the New York Times, wrote.

"He has to be losing a lot of money."This whole thing is making him so small," he added.
