Argentina goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez claimed winning the World Cup was "destiny" after starring in the nail-biting penalty shootout triumph over France in the final on Sunday. Martinez, 30, saved Kingsley Coman in the shootout, propelling Argentina to a 4-2 victory after the exciting final ended 3-3 in extra time. "It was a very complicated match; they came back to equalise late in the game, but it was our destiny to suffer," the Aston Villa goalkeeper explained.

"Everything I had hoped for has come true." I'm at a loss for words. During the penalty shoot-out, I remained calm, and everything went as planned.

"I left for England when I was very little," he says. "I dedicate this win to my entire family."
