Four People In Critical Condition After Fans Break Into Asake Concert In Brixton

According to Lambeth Police, persons were hurt as a big throng attempted to enter the south London club without tickets.

Four people are in critical condition following crowd unrest at a south London performance.

People were alleged to have been locked outside the O2 Academy in Brixton in frigid temperatures, forcing some to try to force their way into for the Asake show.

The concert was eventually called off in the middle, with admirers of the Nigerian artist being told, "The reason we have to halt the show is because they have breached the doors."

"There are 3,000 people outside who have shattered the doors, and the police have requested us to close the concert for security reasons."

The message was greeted with boos before continuing, "This has nothing to do with us... There are those who have broken through the door.

"They've broken in, and security is attempting to assist."

It is unknown if those claimed to have burst the doors had tickets for the event.

According to the O2 Academy's website, the arena can house 4,921 people.

Officers, the London Ambulance Service, and the London Fire Brigade were called to the site around 9.30 p.m. on Thursday, according to the Metropolitan Police.

Eight persons were rushed to the hospital, four of them are currently in severe condition due to injuries caused by crushing. Others were hurt and treated on the spot.

"I was squashed; people stampeded in after hours of standing outside and having the doors closed," one lady reported on Twitter.

Ade Adelekan, gold commander of the Met Police, characterised the situation as "very disturbing."

"This is an extremely upsetting occurrence that has left four individuals severely injured in hospitals," he stated, adding that his thoughts and prayers are with the victims and their families.

"A police investigation has been initiated, and it will be as comprehensive and rigorous as is required to determine what happened last night.

"Specialist officers will investigate the scene, CCTV will be viewed, every witness we can contact will be interviewed, and all other lines of inquiry will be pursued."

"Officers are remained in the area to provide reassurance to the local population in and around Brixton."

While no arrests have been made, authorities have initiated an urgent investigation, and cordons around the O2 Academy remain in place.

He continued: "I'm aware of videos that have been circulated on social media. I would ask that people be cautious about what they share and refrain from posting anything that will be distressing to anyone affected by this occurrence.

"Where police officers have used force, the officers understand they must account for their conduct." The Metropolitan Police Department's Directorate of Professional Standards will review all evidence, including body-worn video footage from officers on the scene.

"In response to a widely circulated video, I can affirm that no police dogs were dispatched to the scene."

He requested witnesses to come forward, as well as anyone with cell phone footage that could help the inquiry.

Sadiq Khan, the mayor of London, tweeted on Friday morning that he was "heartbroken that this could happen to young Londoners enjoying a night out in our city."

He urged anyone with information to contact police, adding that he "will not rest until we have the answers their loved ones and the local community require and deserve."

Asake, a 27-year-old Afrobeats singer and songwriter, debuted with his debut album, "Mr. Money With The Vibe," this year.
