Cameroon shocked Brazil but was left out of the World Cup

In the 92nd minute, Aboubakar, who had been added to captain Rigobert Song's group, connected with a cross from replacement Jerome Ngom Mbekeli to break the score.

On Friday at the World Cup, Cameroon defeated Brazil with a stunning 1-0 victory, but they were unable to go past the round of 16. Cameroon defeated Brazil 1-0 but was unable to go past the round of 16, as Vincent Aboubakar scored the game-winning goal in stoppage time and was subsequently dismissed. At Doha's Lusail Stadium, Aboubakar, who had been inserted into the team of captain Rigobert Song, connected with a cross from substitute Jerome Ngom Mbekeli to break the score in the 92nd minute.

He was warned before being forced to leave his teammates to finish the game after being booked for taking off his shirt during the ensuing wild celebrations.

They did so to achieve a renowned victory, but Switzerland's 3-2 triumph against Serbia at the same time meant that they, along with Brazil, had already qualified from Group G. Brazil topped the group after winning their first two games in Qatar. They will now face South Korea in the round of 16, when several of their important players who were rested for this game will be available.

Brazil's first loss in the group stage of a World Cup since 1998, when they were defeated by Norway, occurred when Coach Tite used a reserve team.

Martinelli dazzles

Tite made nine substitutions with the knockout round in mind, starting Dani Alves, the oldest male international player from Brazil at 39 years old. Brazil's second-string team still had Ederson of Manchester City in goal, Eder Militao of Real Madrid in central defence, Fabinho of Liverpool in midfield, and Gabriel Jesus of Arsenal supporting Rodrygo up front as its backbone.

On the left, they also possessed 21-year-old Gabriel Martinelli, who was their finest player and an Arsenal potential. When he sprang unmarked in the 14th minute, he nearly scored the game's first goal, but Cameroonian goalkeeper Devis Epassy deflected his header over the bar. Martinelli also presented a danger in the last seconds of the opening half with a dribble over the outside of the box and a shot that Epassy blocked.

Neymar, who is still healing from the damaged ankle that kept him from participating in Brazil's opening 2-0 victory against Serbia, observed the action from just behind the Brazilian bench. When Neymar appeared on screens inside the massive stadium, the Brazil supporters, who had unfurled a flag with a "Get Well Soon" message for Pele, shouted enthusiastically.

Cameroon needed the victory, and in the last seconds of the first half, a header from Bryan Mbeumo caused Ederson to make a diving save. Martinelli was their most likely source of a goal, since Brazil had triumphed in all seven prior encounters with African opponents at the World Cup, including victories against Cameroon in 1994 and again in 2014.

The Cameroonian goalkeeper, who was filling in for Andre Onana, who was benched for undisclosed disciplinary reasons, turned a Militao effort around the post shortly after forcing Epassy to tip over another strike arcing towards the top corner.

Everton Ribeiro and Pedro of Flamengo were substituted by Tite, who was eager to examine all of his offensive possibilities, but who also seen Alex Telles suffer an injury in the second half. Telles joins Alex Sandro and Danilo as the third full-back from Brazil to lose their battle with injuries throughout the competition.

At this rate, Alves, who is one year shy of turning 40, will still have a part to play in Qatar. Most significantly, Brazil will be hoping that Neymar will return soon. However, it is unclear whether he will play against South Korea on Monday.

Even if they are already leaving the country, Cameroon should be commended for earning four points from such a challenging group after Aboubakar scored the game-winning goal in injury time.
